Hi! I’m Fidha,

the founder of You Matter Too.

Making this website wasn't exactly an intricately planned action, but rather impulsive. What was rather ingrained in my brain was that I wanted to spread more awareness on mental health for and about people my age, and advocate for my friends and peers. Mental health, although the stigma is slowly being removed, is a very polarizing topic especially when its being discussed in reference to teenagers.

For the longest time, people have simply made the assumption that teenagers "highly emotional" due to hormones or other bodily changes, or simply out of rebellion. However, as mental health has been receiving more attention from media, school districts, healthcare departments, etc,  the idea of deprecating mental health has been a topic of interest in regards to teenagers' behavior. Teenage mental health is becoming a greater issue, with suicide as the second-leading cause of death for people ages 15-24 in the United States, and nearly 20% of all high school students experienced serious suicidal thoughts according to UCLA Health.

Additionally, there are certain biases and prejudices that may increase the likelihood of risk of suicide; for example, a shocking and ever-growing spike in suicide has occurred in the queer community across the globe and indigenous societies in the United States. As such, this space was created to serve as a community to discuss, communicate, express, and aid others, regardless of the severity or intensity of the emotions they may experience; everyone deserves for their voice to be heard.
